چکیده

The properties of cells in the prefrontal cortex and inferotemporal cortex recorded in monkeys performing delayed matching-to-sample tasks with intervening visual stimuli and memory guided attention tasks are reproduced by means of a model in which two networks of leaky integrate-and-"re neurons representing the two cortical areas interact reciprocally. Each of the networks is organized in micro-columns (M-Cs) which leads naturally to a dynamic balance between excitation and inhibition within each M-C so that realistic cortical spiking statistics (low "ring rates with higher or equal to one CVs) are obtained. 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Balanced cortical microcircuitry for spatial working memory based on corrective feedback control.

A hallmark of working memory is the ability to maintain graded representations of both the spatial location and amplitude of a memorized stimulus. Previous work has identified a neural correlate of spatial working memory in the persistent maintenance of spatially specific patterns of neural activity. How such activity is maintained by neocortical circuits remains unknown. Traditional models of ...

Effectiveness of working memory intervention in behavior inhibition and visual working memory of children with Attention Deficit/ impulsive subtype Disorder (ADHD-I)

The aim of the current research study was to determine the effectiveness of working memory intervention on behavioral inhibition and visual working memory in children with symptoms of attention-deficit/impulsivity disorder in Selseleh city. The method was a quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population consisted of all boy students of 8-12 years o...

Integration of what and where in the primate prefrontal cortex.

The visual system separates processing of an object's form and color ("what") from its spatial location ("where"). In order to direct action to objects, the identity and location of those objects must somehow be integrated. To examine whether this process occurs within the prefrontal (PF) cortex, the activity of 195 PF neurons was recorded during a task that engaged both what and where working ...

A recurrent network model of somatosensory parametric working memory in the prefrontal cortex.

A parametric working memory network stores the information of an analog stimulus in the form of persistent neural activity that is monotonically tuned to the stimulus. The family of persistent firing patterns with a continuous range of firing rates must all be realizable under exactly the same external conditions (during the delay when the transient stimulus is withdrawn). How this can be accom...

Short-term plasticity explains irregular persistent activity in working memory tasks.

Persistent activity in cortex is the neural correlate of working memory (WM). In persistent activity, spike trains are highly irregular, even more than in baseline. This seemingly innocuous feature challenges our current understanding of the synaptic mechanisms underlying WM. Here we argue that in WM the prefrontal cortex (PFC) operates in a regime of balanced excitation and inhibition and that...
